1,232,864. Isocyanates. OLIN CORP. 10 April, 1968 [10 April, 1967], No. 17280/68. Heading C2C. Organic isocyanates are prepared by reacting an organic nitro compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst, a liquid suspension of the catalyst being reacted with carbon oxide at elevated temperature and pressure prior to reacting the nitro compound with carbon monoxide. The preferred catalyst is a mixture of at least one halide or oxide of rhodium or palladium with at least one oxide of vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium or tantalum, optionally with cupric bromide. The starting nitro compound may contain various substituents and a long list of starting materials is given. If desired an acid halide may be present to enhance the activity of the catalyst. |
