PURPOSE:To reduce the sizes of a cassette and a recorder by inserting to position the positioning member of the recorder to a pair of through holes formed at both ends of an ink ribbon cassette near a first sidewall, and so guiding the ribbon along the first sidewall as to avoid the through holes. CONSTITUTION:An ink ribbon cassette 40 has box shapes 41, 42, a recess formed to be inserted with a recording head 18 at the end of a first sidewall opposed to a platen 5, engaging sections 42h, 42l, 42m to be engaged with engaging members 35c, 35d, 35e of a recorder at a second sidewall opposed to the recess, and openings 41a, 41b, 42i, 42j formed at both ends of the top and bottom faces near the first sidewall to form a pair of through holes. Positioning members 35a, 35b of the recorder are inserted to the holes to be positioned, and the ribbon 49 is so guided along the first sidewall as to avoid the pair of through holes. Accordingly, the conveying route of the ribbon 49 can be provided near the first sidewall.
