Safety valve for securing pipelines, which comprises at least two sub-elements in the form of chambers which are arranged such that the chambers, on one of their sides, are connected to the pipeline in each case and, on another side, exhibit mutually opposite bores, there being a spacing between the bores which is bridged over by a connecting part which contains a closure element as connection of closures arranged in the sub-elements. Between the sub-elements, whose closures are pressed into the bores and shut off the pipeline if the sub-elements are separated at a predetermined separation point by excessive tensile or bending loading acting on the pipeline, the connecting part and an expansible and barely inflammable sheeting which surrounds the safety valve, there is a cavity in which there is located a fire-retardant substance which neutralises the medium located in the pipeline.
