The cartridge (14) feed mechanism (20) for an automatic firearm comprises a star-shaped feed member (10 or 11) which is rotated step-wise by barrel recoil to move successive cartridges transversely into alignment with the barrel axis (16) and is provided with means to prevent excess rotation. These means comprise a swivellable (22) locking arm (21;25) which is released before rotation commences and returned to its locking position before the end of this rotation in which position it locates the member for correct cartridge alignment. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cartridge feed mechanism for an automatic firearm, reliably prevents excess rotation of the feed members, i.e. ensures exact, e.g. 90 deg., rotational steps, without applying forces causing excessive wear.
