PURPOSE:To efficiently remove the soot in the exhaust gas flowing in the direction of the diameter of the half circular part of a cylinder body by using cross- shaped filters mounted in the cylinder body having a circular cross section. CONSTITUTION:The soot removing device consists of a vertical cylinder body 2 with a circular cross section provided halfway in an exhaust pipe 1. Four filters are mounted in a cross-shape to a rotary shaft 4 provided in the axis of the cylinder body 2. Two shutter plates 7a, 7b are provided in the cylinder body 2 so as to be able to shut and open. The half circular part 2a of the cylinder body 2 forms a soot removing area where the soot in the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust gas pipe 1 is removed by the filter 6b. The other half circular part 2b of the cylinder body 2 forms a filter washing area where the soot stuck to a filter 6d is washed off. Thus, when the soot stuck to a filter is accumulated to a certain large amount, the rotary shaft 4 is revolved by 90 deg. to remove soot by a washed filter.
