PURPOSE:To facilitate miniaturization of the reader and external interruption of an optical system by arranging a prism so as to refract a reflected light from an original face and arranging a nonmagnification lens array and an image sensor on the optical path. CONSTITUTION:When an original 11 is carried to a read point E by an original roller 19, the reflected light by the radiation of a light source 13 is refracted by a prism 14, collected onto an image sensor 16 via a lens array 15, and subject to photoelectric conversion by a sensor 16. Since the prism 14 is provided, then it is not required to provide the array 15 just above the read point E, set horizontally and the thickness of the device is decreased to attain miniaturization. Moreover, the reduction in the luminous quantity by the prism 14 is compensated sufficiently by approaching the light source 13. Moreover, the light source 13 and the array 15 in terms of position relation are set to a proper position of the prism 14, then the normal read is applied. Moreover, the original and the optical system are interrupted by using the prism 14 and the optical system is protected from dust or dirt.
