The invention relates to a symmetrical, lockable tumbler lock with a spring-loaded and symmetrical locking bolt 3 and two drop members 11, 12 arranged on each side of the locking bolt 3. That part of the locking bolt 3 which remains inside the lock also comprises stops 5, 6 projecting to each side, one of which, in the locking position, functions together with one drop member. The locking bolt 3, which at its rear end is provided with an open track 7, is arranged in a sliding manner in such a manner that it bears against a separate base plate 4 which is arranged in a sliding manner in relation to the housing 1 of the lock and is provided with stop parts 8, 9, 10. The first stop parts 8, which are located at the front edge of the base plate 4, are arranged so as to act on those sides of the stop parts 5, 6 which are located towards the front plate 2 of the lock. The drop members 11, 12 are for their part adapted so as to act on the second stop parts 9 at the rear edge of the base plate 4. The third stop part 10 is arranged in such a manner that it penetrates the track 7 of the locking bolt 3. Also arranged in the track 7 of the locking bolt is a first spring 16 which counteracts the movement of the locking bolt in relation to the base plate 4. Arranged between the third stop part 10 and the rear part of the housing 1 of the lock is furthermore a second spring 17 which is stronger than the first spring 16 and which counteracts the joint movement of the locking bolt 3 and the base plate 4. To reduce production costs and to improve the secure function of the lock, the second stop parts 9 located at the rear edge of the base plate 4 are made in the form of projections 21 which extend at least to the same level as the handle openings 14, 15 in the drop members 11, 12.
