NEW MATERIAL:A pyridylmethylsulfide derivative shown by formula I [R<1> is group shown by formula II, formula III or formula IV (R<2> is H or lower alkyl; R<3> is amino, phenyl or lower alkyl); n is 1 or 2]. EXAMPLE:1-Methyl-2-(2-pyridylmethyl)isothiourea dihydrochloride. USE:Having pharmaceutical actions such as cardiac action, diuretic action, inhibitory action on blood platelet aggregation, antiedemic action or antihypertensive action and useful as a drug such as a drug for bronchodilator, calcium antagonist, cardiac, parasympathetic nerve suppressive agent, anti-stress ulcer or further antiedemic agent having immediate effects. PREPARATION:For example, a thiourea derivative corresponding to a group shown by formula V or thiosemicarbazide derivative is reacted with chloromethylpyridine hydrochloride in a molar ratio of 1/1 in a polar solvent while stirring or under reflux to give a compound shown by formula I where R<1> is group shown by formula IV.
