PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer improved in gloss, rigidity, hardness and which gives a molding improved in appearance and impact resistance, comprising specified dispersed and continuous phases, by polymerizing a styrene monomer containing a rubbery polymer and an acrylonitrile monomer. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer consisting of dispersed and continuous phases obtained by polymerizing, in bulk or a solution, a styrene monomer containing a dissolved rubbery polymer and an acrylonitrile monomer, wherein (a) the amount of said rubbery polymer is at least 10pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. said copolymer, (b) at least 50% said rubbery polymer has a 5wt.% styrene solution viscosity of 2-19cP at 25 deg.C, (c) the dispersed phase comprises rubber polymer particles which occlude or are grafted with a copolymer of the styrene monomer with the acrylonitrile monomer, (d) x and y satisfy formulas I and II, respectively (wherein y is the amount (pts.wt.) of the copolymer occluded by or grafted upon said rubbery polymer per 100pts.wt. rubbery polymer, and (e) Dd satisfies formula III (wherein Dd is the particle diameter distribution coefficient of the rubbery polymer particles. |
