PURPOSE:To facilitate operation of a cell even if an environmental temperature is low below 0 deg.C for a long period by disposing a heat-radiating part of a heat pipe at the inside or in the vicinity of the cell and disposing a part of the heat pipe at a vertical depth of 1 m or more below the earth surface and performing a heat retaining process sufficiently therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A cell body is composed of an element cell 1, a fuel tank 2 made of polyethylene, and an exhaustion stopcock equipped with a gas/liquid separating film. When a carbon dioxide gas produced by a discharge reaction at a negative electrode is exhausted from the tank, fuel is prevented from leaking. A methanol aqueous solution of 20 volume% in its methanol concentration is used as the fuel 4. A heated part 42 of a heat pipe 40 is disposed at a vertical depth of about 2 m from the earth surface, and a heat-radiating part 41 of the heat pipe 40 is disposed in the fuel 4 which exists in the fuel tank 2 of the cell 31. A part between the heat-radiating part 41 and heating part 42 of the heat pipe 40 is covered with a heat retaining material 43 such as glass wool so as to be in a heat retaining state. Hence, the cell can be operated even if an environmental temperature is low below 0 deg.C. |
