The filter element or filter medium comprises compacted or compressed glass fibres, particularly glass fibre filter paper for use as high-efficeincy particulate air filter (HEPA) (to retain down to 0.3 micron particles). The filter material is provided with electrically conducting components (2) via which an electro-static charge can be dissipated. These components pref. consist of carbon on and/or contained in the material, pref. in the form of carbon fibres and, more partic., as a meshwork reinforcement.
