This invention is directed to a method for preventing polymerization of aqueous acrylamide contained in a vessel comprising passing an oxygencontaining gas through the aqueous acrylamide containing acrylonitrile and then contacting the resulting gas stream solely with a carbon adsorbent. This is a particularly advantageous method when aqueous acrylamide is stored in remote locations.
