NEW MATERIAL:A dithiolane derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is >=2C lower alkyl group). EXAMPLE:4-Ethylthio-1,2-dithiolane. USE:Useful as an acaricide, capable of exhibiting excellent acaricidal action on animal or plant parasitic mites, hardly showing insecticidal action with hardly any resistance of mites even by repeated use and exhibiting stable acaricidal effects for a long period without phytotoxicity to crops, having low toxicity to fishes and safely usable with hardly any environmental pollution. In use, the derivative is used as a formulation such as emulsion, etc., by dissolving in a suitable carrier, etc. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II (R<2> is hydrocarbon group) is subjected to cyclization reaction in the presence of preferably an acid or base in a solvent, such as methyl alcohol, etc., at 10-80 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
