A concrete mixer has a rotatable tilting drum 1 mounted in a frame 3 rotatable in the horizontal plane so that the drum can discharge in any direction; the space below the frame 3 is unobstructed to obtain a low centre of gravity. The drum is pivoted about an axis 14 near its mouth so that the mouth is higher in the loading than in the discharging position, (Fig. 2, not shown); adjustable legs 37, 38 may be unequally extended to tilt the frame so that the drum can be loaded in the highest position and will move under the action of gravity to discharge at the lowest (Fig. 8, not shown). The drum may be rotated by an internal combustion or electric motor protected by an extended skirt 11 and driving through a friction drive or a ring gear which may be a coil spring (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The drum may be tilted by a hand lever 22 or by a cable and winch arrangement (Fig. 5, and 8-16, not shown) incorporating a pulley carried on a floating beam whereby the bottom of the drum is raised above any fixed point on the system. The winch may be operated by the drum rotating motor through a friction gear arrangement providing different ratios for raising and lowering, (Fig. 7, not shown). The drum may be connected to the floating beam by a power operated screw and nut arrangement (Figs. 17-19 not shown). The adjustable legs 37, 38 may be replaced by non-adjustable legs which can be arranged to act as a towing bar (Figs. 20-22, not shown). |
