NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula [R is COCH3, COCH2CH3, COCH(CH3)2 or COC(CH3)3] having the following physicochemical properties: Appearance, white powder; solubility, soluble in ethanol, methanol, ethyl acetate and chloroform and insoluble in water, hexane, petroleum ether, etc. USE:The above-mentioned compound has aromatase-inhibiting action and useful as an anticancer agent. PREPARATION:6beta,14alpha-Dihydroxy-DELTA<4>-androstene-3,17-dione is dissolved in a solvent such as pyridine, and acetic anhydride, etc., is added to the solution and the mixture is stirred at room temperature. Then water is added to the mixture and the resultant aqueous solution is shaken with ether. The ether is then removed and the remainder is dehydrated and concentrated. |
