PURPOSE:To improve the operability of correspondence processing by designating the processing direction for correspondence between input data and information on an information memory. CONSTITUTION:Data supplied by an input means is stored in a data memory and a correspondence means secures the correspondence between the data on a data memory and the information on an information memory. The start position of the correspondence processing carried out by the correspondence means in the data memory is designated by a position designating means. At the same time, the correspondence processing direction is designated by a direction designating means and the result of the correspondence processing is outputted via a correspondence output means. When the information memory is coincident with a dictionary memory, for example, each word of the dictionary memory and their spellings are checked successively for each input data (word). This spelling check start position is designated by a cursor or a print head and the spelling check direction is designated by a printing direction spelling check key or an inverse printing direction spelling check key. Thus the correspondence processing is carried out in the desired direction and the correspondence processing operability is improved.
