PURPOSE:To easily reveal a bidirectional or omnidirectional shape memory effect and also to improve the working accuracy of the above effect, by adding and dispersing stable and high-m.p. fine grains into a TiNi alloy. CONSTITUTION:Stable and high-m.p. fine grains are added and dispersed by about 10-30% by volume into a TiNi alloy consisting of, by atom, about 49.5-50.5% Ni and the balance Ti. It is preferable to use the fine grains of ceramics such as SiC, Al2O3, etc., as the fine grains. In this shape memory alloy, a bidirectional or omnidirectional memory is easily revealed and working is stabilized because an internal-stress field is easily formed without restriction by composition. Moreover, since sliding stress is increased owing to dispersion strengthening by the added fine grains, the durability of the alloy can be improved.
