The invention relates to a high-pressure metal halide lamp with a low colour temperature and good colour reproduction which has a transparent, high-melting discharge vessel, preferably made of vitreous silica (quartz glass) and at least two main electrodes. The electrodes are soldered in in the one end or in the opposite ends of the discharge vessel. The discharge vessel contains noble gas(es) as the starting gas, the buffer gas used being a filling of mercury. There are present, as an additive in an amount ensuring saturation in the operating stage, halides of Dy, Ho and Na and optionally of Tl and/or Cs and/or Li. The discharge vessel is arranged in a transparent tube into which the current leads are inserted either at the one end or at both ends of the tube. The essence of the metal halide lamp according to the invention consists in the joint molar ratio of Dy halide and Ho halide to the Na halide being in the range between 1:1 and 1:4. <IMAGE>
