PURPOSE:To improve whiteness or brightness of coloring, by irradiating a pharmaceutical with ultraviolet rays in operation to coat the outer surface of a drug with a coating layer, e.g. methyl cellulose, etc., and/or operation to dry the coating layer thereafter. CONSTITUTION:A pharmaceutical is irradiated with light including ultraviolet rays in operation to coat the outer surface of a drug with a coating layer, e.g. methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carboxymethyl ethyl cellulose, etc., and/or operation to dry the coating layer thereafter to improve whiteness or brightness of coloring without impairing strength of the coating layer. A mercury lamp is preferred as the light source and methods for irradiating with light by, e.g. installing the light source in the interior of a coating pan, and rotating the pan, etc., are adopted to as homogeneously and efficiently irradiate the pharmaceutical as possible. The pharmaceutical may be a tablet but also granule or powder.
