PURPOSE:To provide a magnifier which is convenient to carry and permits magnified viewing of characters, etc., in a wide field by mounting a pair of convex lenses having a small magnification and approximately the same refractive index to a supporting base plate 1 apart at a spacing provided between each other in the plane direction of the supporting plate in such a manner that the optical axes of the respective lenses intersect approximately orthogonally with the plane of the base plate and forming the entire part of the magnifier to a thin and compact shape. CONSTITUTION:At least a pair of the convex lenses 4, 6 having the small magnification and approximately the same refractive index are mounted to the supporting base plate 1 of a card size apart at the spacing provided between each other in the plane direction of the base plate 1 in such a manner that the said lenses are housed within about the thickness of the plate 1 and the optical axes of the respective lenses 4, 6 intersect approximately orthogonally with the plane of the plate 1. The entire part of the magnifier is thereby formed to the thin and compact shape to permit easy housing of the magnifier. Since the magnification of the lenses 4, 6 is small, the characters, etc., can be distinctly viewed in magnification by the magnifier which is distanced largely from documents, etc., and is held close to the eyes. Since the refractive indices are approximately the same, the placement of a pair of the lenses 4, 6 opposite to both eyes and the viewing in a wide field through the respective lenses 4, 6 are possible.
