PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester having excellent spinning productivity without causing bending, by polycondensing a glycol ester of terephthalic acid, etc., in the presence of a reaction product of an antimony compound with a specific phosphorus compound as a polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:(B) A reaction product obtained by reacting (i) an antimony compound, e.g. antimony trioxide, etc., with (ii) a phosphorus compound expressed by the formula (R1-R3 are H, alkyl, etc.), e.g. phosphoric acid, etc., in, e.g. a glycol solvent, at 100-200 deg.C in an amount of >=0.05mol.% expressed in terms of phosphorus atoms based on a carboxylic acid component of (A) a glycol ester of a bifunctional carboxylic acid consisting essentially of terephthalic acid and/or a low polymer thereof is added to the component (A) and polycondensation is carried out to afford the aimed polyester having 0.3-0.5 intrinsic viscosity.
