Gear oil compositions are described which comprise a lubricating base oil having dissolved therein: (A) at least one phosphite ester characterized by the formula: wherein R<1> and R<2> are hydrocarbyl based groups of from 1 to 30 carbon atoms and (B) at least one metal overbased composition.
