PURPOSE:To improve the sensitivity and repetitive characteristics of a sensitive body by using an azo compd. contg. a diphenylthiophene structure as an electric charge generating substance. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive layer 20 contg. one or more kinds of azo compds. each contg. a diphenylthiophene structure represented by formula I, II or III as an electric charge generating substance 3 and a pyrazoline compd. or the like as an electric charge transferring substance 5 is formed on an electrically conductive substrate 1 by coating or other method. In the formulae I-III, each of R1-R41 is H, halogen or the like and A is a coupler residue. Each of the azo compds. is synthesized by bringing a diazonium salt and a coupler corresponding to the compd. into a coupling reaction by the action of a base in a proper org. solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide.
