The acids are made by refluxing (opt. up to 200 degrees.) H2O and an unsatd. nitrile (I) with a halogenated polyolefin or a mixt. of halogen and polyolefin (II), pref. in the ratio of H2O2-4, I 1-2, II 0.5-1.5, and Cl 1-2 mol. Spec. I is acrylonitrile and II is a C2-5 polymer, esp. of C3H6 or iso-C4H8 having mol. wt. 600-3,000. The bitumen emulsion contains 1-1.5% carboxylic acid and opt. 0.9-1.8 wt.% alkali(ne earth) metal base. |
