PURPOSE:To obtain the title polyester excellent in modulus, strength, moldability and heat stability, by acylating a cooligomer obtained from a specified oligoester and a hydroxycarboxylic acid and polymerizing the acylation product in a vacuum. CONSTITUTION:A cooligomer obtained from 5-95mol.% (in terms of repeating units) oligoester (A) comprising repeating units of formula I [wherein R1 is a 6-20C bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group (in which aromatic ring hydrogens are substituted with halogens, 1-4C alkyls or alkoxys), a 4-20C bivalent alicylic hydrocarbon group or the like, R2 is a 2-40C bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a polyalkylene oxide diradical of an MW of 80-8,000 or the like] and setting the relationship of formula III (wherein the numbers of equivalents of terminal OH groups and terminal COOH groups are those per 100 equivalents of formula II) and 95-5mol.% hydroxycarboxylic acid (B) of a group of formula IV [wherein R3 is a 6-20C aromatic hydrocarbon group (in which hydrogenatoms are substituted with halogenatoms, 1-4C alkyls or alkoxyls)] is acylated with an acylating agent (C) and polymerized in a vacuum.
