The method makes it possible that plants 1, preferably forest saplings, are, already before planting out, provided with a protection which surrounds the plants (1) and their roots in essential parts. This protection is, in the final location of the plants, effective against insect attacks, gives the plants (1) protection from the wind and at the same time guarantees a balanced climate in terms of moisture and temperature. The device for protecting the plants consists of a highly permeable, weldable material, preferably of a plastic foil, which can be separated in sheets from a material web (4) and which surrounds the plants (1) completely or partially and can be shaped in such a manner that additional free space for the growth of the plants is available. By adding active substances to the material, the life of the sleeve can be determined and its decomposition achieved within a given time. The device for forming the sleeves according to Fig. 3 consists of a conventional conveyor belt (2) for feeding the plants (saplings) (1), under which the material web (4) is supplied, for forming the sleeves (Fig. 3), to two clamping/welding jaws (5, 6), which are pivotable about a common axis (8), forming a sagging pocket (10) and shaping a pocket (10) receiving the sapling (plant 1). After closing and cutting the clamping/closing jaws (5, 6), the sleeve is formed and is ejected onto a second conveyor belt (11) for further disposal. <IMAGE> |
