[Also in Division C2], Photographic silver halide emulsion layers or a layer in water permeable relationship therewith contain as antifoggant a mercury (II) chelate of a compound of formula: - wherein L is an alkylene or substituted alkylene group or an alkylene group interrupted by hetero atoms e.g. oxygen, a cycloalkylene or substituted cycloalkylene group, x is 0 1 1 or 2 1 R is an alkylene or substituted alkylene group and R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl, aryl or substituted aryl. Specified substituent groups or L 1 R 1 R 1 and R 2 are carboxyl, hydroxyl, hydroxypheryl, pyridyl, phosphono, sulpho and 3, 5-chloro - 4 - hydroxyphenyl. The emulsion layer or a layer in water. permeable relationship therewith may contain other antifoggants e.g. 5- methyl - 7 - hydroxy - 5 - triazolo - [1 1 5-a]- pyrimldine benzothizoline - 2 - one and 1 - phenyl - 2 -tetrazoline - 5 - thione or sensitizers e. g. polyoxyalthylene compounds, allyl thioeyanate, sodium thiosulphate, allyl thiourea, noble metal salts and reducing agents. |
