PURPOSE:To realize accurate retrieving with a character input device like a word processor, etc., by discriminating a contracted sound character and converting it into an ordinary character to input it. CONSTITUTION:When an information retrieving process is designated by a mouse 3, the relevant list is displayed on a CRT 4. Then the information retriev al of a prescribed title is selected out of the list by the mouse 3 and at the same time desired data, command are inputted from a keyboard 1 after a changeover switch 12 is turned on. Here 'gijutsu' is inputted and a character reading device 10 detects a contracted sound 'u' out of the 'gijutsu'. Then a character converting device 11 converts said contracted sound into an ordinary character 'u' to register it in the form of 'gijutsu' and then to display it on the CRT 4. In such a way, an access is given to an external device 6 which inputs the necessary data to the information retrieval. Thus it is possible to perform a prescribed information retrieving task regardless of mixture of con tracted sound characters.
