Multi-spindle automatic in which the main drive motor (24) is mounted on the machine frame (11) in such a way that its shaft journal (25) runs parallel to the main drive shaft (21), in which arrangement the shaft journal (25) of the main drive motor (24) and the main drive shaft (21) can be connected to one another by a drive mechanism (29) via couplings (32, 33 and 34, 35) lying in one plane. The drive mechanism (29) is accommodated in the door (26) of the change-gear housing (18, 18a) and can be swung out together with the latter, the two couplings being separated simultaneously. In this way, it is possible to accommodate the main drive motor in a space-saving manner and make the change-gear housing easily accessible. <IMAGE>
