The circular knitting machine described in Specification 1,029,373 is modified by replacing the stack of thin rotary discs influencing the pressers and thereby the jacks or needles by a perforated tape wrapped round a drum or extending round a number of drums and advanced at a rate corresponding with the speed of the cylinder so that the perforations in a surface of the tape influence the pressers to effect the selection. The drum is movable heightwise relative to the pressers but preferably the pressers are raised or lowered to bring the appropriate butt into engagement with a particular series of perforationis in the tape in order to achieve the desired selection.</p> |
