<p>INTERNAL BORE WELDING TORCH HAVING REMOVABLE FLEXIBLE WAND FOR REMOTE WELDING The invention discloses a novel internal bore welding torch assembly which is adapted for making welds in remote locations. That torch assembly comprises a torch body unit which includes a connection attached to the body for supplying flows of a cooling fluid, shield gas and electric power to the body unit with the body unit having a central cylindricalshaped opening therein for receiving an elongated welding wand unit in slid able engagement therein. An elongated flexible welding wand unit is removably and rotatable received in the torch body unit with that elongated wand containing a welding electrode oriented radially at the wand outer end, with a longitudinal passage located within the wand for providing flow of coolant and shield gas from the body unit to the electrode, and with an elongated flexible electrical connection for supplying electrical power to the electrode. The torch body unit has a drive unit associated with it for rotating the removable welding wand unit at a controlled rate while supplying the cooling fluid, shield gas and electric power to the electrode during making an arc weld at the remote location, the drive means includes an electric motor and gear reducer mounted on the torch body unit at the rear portion thereof, and the gear reducer includes splints for contacting the removable wand unit.</p> |
