An album comprises a plurality of pages 10, Fig. la, each provided with hinges 12, 15 which are engaged by flexible straps 18 to contain the pages between the album covers (not shown). In one embodiment the hinges are formed by a folded hinge mounting member 12, Fig. 1, adhesively bonded to the marginal edge portion along a margin 11 which is abutted by a metallic hinge element 13 whose ends 14 are bent inwardly to provide bights 15 defining recesses 16 for the straps 18. The bights 15, which pass through apertures 17 in the hinge mounting member, may face towards or away from each other and the ends (14a, Fig. 2) may be twisted about the intermediate portion of the hinge element. In another embodiment the hinge element is formed by a rod (13c, Fig. 4) having soldered thereto a second element (14c) whose ends are bent to provide inwardly or outwardly facing bights (15c). In a further embodiment the hinge element 13f, Fig. 7, is formed by a flat bar member provided intermediate its length with a pair of U- shaped portions defining bights 15f and strap receiving recesses 16f. In a still further embodiment the hinge element is moulded integrally from polyethylene and comprises a bifurcated hinge mounting member 12h, Fig. 9, attached by a hinge element 13h to a bead 15h forming the required bights to define the strap receiving recesses 16h. The end portions or intermediate portion of the hinge element (13i, Fig. 10 and 13j, Fig. 11), respectively, may be removed to provide terminal recesses (16i) or a central recess (16j). |
