PURPOSE:To facilitate the removal of accumulated sediment by setting the angle between a wall face made of earth, wood, etc., which forms a conduit for a pump, and a horizontal plane at a specific value and collecting and accumulating said sediment contained in raw water on the bottom part of said conduit. CONSTITUTION:Raw water 1 advances along a conduit 5 through a gate 2, to be lifted by a pump 6. And, sediment 7 which is mixed into the raw water 1 is accumulated on the bottom part of the conduit 6. In this case, in the sectional form of the conduit 5, the inclination angle theta between a wall face 4 which forms the conduit 5 and a horizontal plane is set at 30 deg. or more. Thereby, the inclined faces of the wall faces 4 forming the conduit 5 securely make the sediment 7 slide down without keeping it stay on the inclined faces, to collect and accumulate the sediment 7 on the bottom part of the conduit 5. Accordingly, the sediment 7 accumulated on the bottom part of the conduit 5 can be easily removed.
