A device for measuring slag depth includes a measuring coil (19) encompassing a movable inductor (18), a probe electrodes (5a, 5b), and a floater (17). The inductor is connected to the floater with an iron wire and the electrodes connected to the coil are arranged to freely enter through holes in the floater. When the probe is inserted into a molten bath, the position of the inductor is varied in proportion to the slag depth such that the inductance of the LC oscillator (20) is varied and is converted to frequency variations at a F/V converter (21). Then an indicator (22) shows the slag depth by converting the analog voltage to the digital form.
