PURPOSE:To reduce a memory capacity and to perform a processing at high speed, by storing retrieval information in a memory device. designating at least one item out of plural constituting the retrieval information, and displaying the content of the information on a display device. CONSTITUTION:When desired information is retrieved from a magnetic disk device 18, the display and detection of the summary table of titles is designated, and prompt display (Display key?) is displayed on a display device 12. When a key number is determined corresponding to the above, key word such as the number of sheets, the date, and the destination of a document, and a sort key number are read out from the titlte table of a data base, and are stored in a main memory 21. At this time, when sort designation is issued, the titles are rearranged according to the key word of the key number on which display is designated, and are displayed on the device 12. Also, when no sort designated is issued, the title read out by a display designation key is displayed in a prescribed order.
