PURPOSE:To obtain a detector with good linearity by performing arithmetic from a specific expression indicating the relation between the sampled value and pulse position of an input signal by utilizing the exponential characteristic of the amplitude of the input signal. CONSTITUTION:The output signals x1, x2, and x3 of 4th, 3rd, and 2nd stages of a four-stage shift register 1 which inputs the input signal with pulse width T and outputs a delayed signal continuously are inputted to a computing element 3a to compute and output an output z1 expressed by an equation I. Further, the output signals x2, x3, and x4 of the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st stages of the shift register 1 are inputted to a computing element 3b to compute and output an output Z2 expressed by an equation II. Then the outputs Z1 and Z2 are inputted to a maximum detecting circuit 4 to send out a large output between the outputs Z1 and Z2, thereby obtaining the detecting circuit with good linearity.
