PURPOSE:To prevent a held article from being tightened excessively by moving a swinging cylinder, as it is rotated, to the large bore side of a clamping cylinder until one locating piece touches the projection portion of the other locating ring, and then judging the completion of a clamping according to the then touching sound and the vibration propagated to the hand. CONSTITUTION:A held article is inserted into an inserting hole 4 on a clamping cylinder 3, and a swinging cylinder 17 is rotated, and then, the clamping cylinder 3 is compressed by means of a roller 27 so that the held article is clamped and held. In that case, the swinging cylinder 17 is moved to the large bore side of the clamping cylinder 3 until it reaches a fixed position where a clamping is completed, and a locating piece 38 as one locating tool is caused to touch the projection portion 32 of a locating ring 31 as the other locating tool. In addition, if the clamping of a held article at the abovementioned touching point of time becomes loose due to a long-time use, the locating piece 38 is caused to climb over the projection portion 32 of the locating ring 31 elastically. Thereby, an excessive clamping of a held article can be prevented, and the held article can be clamped and held certainly, and further, the life-time of a holding equipment can be extended.
