<p>Tetrahydroquinoline ethers of formula (I) (where R1 is 1-4C opt. branched-chain alkyl) are prepd. by dehydrogenative ring-opening, pref. using 2,3-dichloro-5,6- dicyanobenzoquinone, Pd/C, pyridinium hydrobromide perbromide, bromine or phenyltrimethylammonium bromide, of novel spiro(1,3-dioxolan-2,5'-quinoline) derivs. of formula (II). Reaction of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydro- 2,5-quinolinedione with a 3-substd. propylene oxide or a 3-substd.-1,2-propanediol (e.g. epihalohydrin or mesyloxymethyloxirane) in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. ferrous halide, titanium halide, aluminium halide, tin halide or p-toluenesulphonic acid) gives cpds. of formula (III) (claimed as new) (where R2 is alkylsulphonyloxy, arylsulphonyloxy, acyloxy, halogen or OH). These are reacted with R1NH2 to form (II).</p> |
