PURPOSE:To make it possible to markedly improve the ultraviolet screening property of the obtained resin composition without adding a usual ultraviolet absorber, by adding a specified amount of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid or its derivative to a thermoplastic polyester resin. CONSTITUTION:This polyester resin composition is prepared by adding 0.001-10 pts.wt. at least one member selected from among naphthalenedicarboxylic acids and their derivatives of formulas I and II to 100pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester. In formula I, R<1> and R<2>, which may be the same or different from each other, are each hydrogen or an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkylaralkyl group which may be substituted. In formula II, X is O or NR<3>, R<3> is the same as R<1> or R<2> or a halogen, or hydroxyl, and the acid anhydride group or imide group of -C(=O)-X-C(=O)- forms a ring by bonding to any one of the combinations of 1, 2 positions, 1, 8 positions and 2, 3 positions on the naphthalene ring.
