PURPOSE:To smoothly move a magnetic circuit of a movable element side by forming any of toothform shapes of the magnetic circuits of a stator and the movable element in a parallelogram having a predetermined relationship, thereby reducing a cogging force. CONSTITUTION:One of the toothform shapes of primary and secondary magnetic circuits of a linear motor is formed in a rectangular shape. The toothform shape of the other magnetic circuit is formed in a parallelogram, or formed in a laminated parallelogram in which a plurality of parallelograms are laminated, and the displacement A of the upper and lower sides of the parallelogram becomes tau/N (where tau is the pitch of the teeth, and N is an integer number). When one toothform shape of the magnetic circuit is formed in the parallelogram in this manner, a cogging force of tau/N period is generated from the magnetic circuit, a cogging force different at 180 deg.. of the phase with the same period as this cogging force is generated, and both forces cancel each other out.
