PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a polypeptide having somatomedin activity, by cultivating a bacterium transformed with a plasmid containing gene coding polypeptide having somatomedin activity in a nutrient medium. CONSTITUTION:Escherichia coli transformed with a plasmid inserted so as to be able to express part corresponding to DNA segment known as a synthetic gene capable of coding human growth hormone (hGH) and expressing the hGH using a gene recombinant method is prepared. The transformed escherichia coli is cultivated in a nutrient medium to provide the aimed polypeptide having the 138th amino acid chain from N-end to C-end of hGH and somatomedin activity. The aimed polypeptide has high expression ratio, readily and efficiently is extracted and refined and is applicable as a growth promoter of bones.
