N,N<SP>1</SP>-Disubstituted thioureas of formula R 1 -NH-CS-NH-R 1 , wherein the radicals R 1 may be identical or different and each represents an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or alkenyl radical which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more substituents that are inert under the reaction conditions are prepared by reacting a halomethane having the formula wherein X denotes a halogen atom and R 2 , R 3 and R 4 may be identical or different and each denotes a hydrogen or halogen atom or where R 2 denotes the radical Cl-CH 2 -O-, X denotes a chlorine atom and R 3 and R 4 each denote a hydrogen atom, with elementary sulphur and with one or two primary amines of formula R 1 -NH 2 , in which R 1 has the above meaning, about the stoichiometric amount of sulphur being used for complete conversion of the halomethane to the thiourea. Using this process the following compounds are prepared in the examples: N,N<SP>1</SP>-dicyclohexyl thiourea; N,N<SP>1</SP>- dibenzylthiourea; N,N<SP>1</SP> - dicyclo - octyl thiourea; N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - n - propylthiourea and N,N<SP>1</SP>- di-n-butylthiourea. |
