PURPOSE:To provide the titled fiber outstanding in both steaming and fatigue resistances, having both high strength and Young's modulus, useful for various industrial materials, consisting of an aromatic polyamide copolymer constituted of two kinds of structural units incorporated with respective specific diamines. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber can be obtained by spinning, in a conventional manner, an aromatic polyamide copolymer constituted of (1) 80-20mol% of structural unit of formula I (X is methyl or Cl) and (2) 20-80mol% of another structural unit of formula II. Said aromatic polyamide copolymer can favorably be prepared by dissolving in an amide solvent, two diamine components: (A) 2, 2'-dimethylbenzidine and/or 2, 2'-dichlorobenzidine and (B) 1,4-bis(p-aminophenoxy)benzene in the molar ratio A/B=8/20-20/80 followed by adding (C) an equimolar amount, to said diamine components, of terephthaloyl chloride to carry out a polycondensation.
