PURPOSE:To attain mutual communication between both systems by providing a signal converter comprising a transmission/reception section by a conventional system and a spread spectrum communication system (SS system), a coupling section coupling a lighting line and the transmission/reception section and a main control section controlling totally them. CONSTITUTION:The signal coding and converting device 411 consists of conventional transmission/reception sections 102, 103, transmission/reception sections 104, 105 of the SS system and the main control section 108. A transmission signal from a master set 402 is sent through a lighting line 401 as the signal of a conventional system. When the main control section 108 of the device 411 discriminates it as the signal of a conventional system, the device 411 returns a reply (ACK) by the conventional system to the master set 402, converts it into a signal received by the slave set 412 of the SS system and sends it. The slave set 412 receives the signal from the device 411 to reply the ACK. When the signal sent back with the ACK is correct, the device 411 returns the ACK to the slave set 412. The device 411 converts the signal of the SS system into the conventional system and sends the result.
