The method is used on a vessel adapted to contain hydrogen at high temperature and high pressure and comprises replacing defective portions of the corrosion resistant cladding 3 with fresh corrosion resistant material and securing it to the shell 2 of the vessel by welding and then subjecting the boundary between the fresh material and the shell to a heat treatment at between 700 DEG C and 1100 DEG C by means of a high frequency induction heating unit. The heat treatment may be applied before defective cladding portions occur.
