PURPOSE:To obtain a maleimide copolymer excellent in heat resistance, impact strength, processability, etc., by feeding an aromatic vinyl monomer and a vinyl cyanide monomer to a polymerization system and polymerizing these monomers while adding a maleimide monomer thereto in small portions. CONSTITUTION:95-50pts.wt. total of 40-80pts.wt. aromatic vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene) and 10-40pts.wt. vinyl cyanide monomer (e.g., acrylonitrile) is fed to a polymerization system. 5-50pts.wt. total of a maleimide monomer (e.g., maleimide) and, optionally, at most 30wt%, based on the maleimide monomer, copolymerizable monomer is intermittently or continuously added thereto in such a manner that the amount of addition is constant or varies within the range of a constant rate + or -40%. The polymerization is continued to a polymer conversion of 70% to obtain the purpose maleimide copolymer.
