摘要 PURPOSE:To properly automatize machining operation by providing an optical tool measuring instrument on a numerically controlled machine tool, measuring a tool on an in-process basis, and feeding tool diameter correction data and tool position offset data back to a numerical controller. CONSTITUTION:A laser light beam from a light emission part 10 is received by a light receiving part 11 and detected 16 to know how long the laser light beam is cut off by the tool 3. Then the digital data value of the section size of a body to be measured such as the tool 3 is calculated 17 and fed back to the numerical controller. At this time, a Y-axial table 30 is so positioned that the tool 3, light emission part 10, and light receiving part 11 are in position relation shown in a figure; and then the numerical controller sends a command to rotate the tool 3. Consequently, the light receiving part 11 feeds back the maximum rotational diameter of the tool to the controller and it becomes the tool diameter correction data automatically. Then the table 30 is moved away from the tool 3 to detect the position at the moment the laser light is not cut off any more, and the difference in the position information on a standard tool which is measured previously and the position information on the actual tool is computed by the numerical controller to obtain the tool position offset data.
