PURPOSE:To reduce the access time by devising the titled system that a head operating means operates the head by a step number designated by a step signal asynchronously when the high speed mode is discriminated from the step signal by a mode discriminating means. CONSTITUTION:In case of reading file management information FC, the operation of the head 3 to a specific track with the file management information FC written therein is commanded to a disk storage device main body 10 by the step signal SP of the low speed mode and a direction command signal. Since a mode discriminating means 40 detects it in a short time by two pulses in the step signal of the low speed mode and the direction designation signal, the head operating means 50, based thereupon, moves the head 3 up to the specific track at a high speed asynchronously within a short time. Thus, the access time to the disk storage device 10 is reduced.
