An adjusting arrangement for controlling the movement of an object e.g. a vehicle seat in at least two different directions includes a control member (13, 12, 11) having an eccentric (11) mounted within a pinion gear (5) which engages an internally toothed gear (1). The control member (13, 12, 11) can drive, i.e. rotate, the pinion gear (5) such that it selectively engages any of a plurality of toothed driving elements (7 to 10) each associated with a respective direction of movement of the object.
