PURPOSE:To measure an angular velocity of a base element supporting rotary bodies, by measuring a time required for the rotation of each of a plurality of rotary bodies rotating in concert with each other, and by determining a time difference between them. CONSTITUTION:A driving device 1 is fitted to a base 2, and a plate (a) 3 is driven directly, while a plate (b) 4 is driven reversely. The plates 3 and 4 have slits 5 provided in the same number and at the same interval, respectively, Moreover, pulse generators 6 corresponding to the plates (a) 3 and (b) 4 respectively are fitted to the base 2. Together with a quartz oscillator, these pulse generators 6 deliver signals to a time counting element, which counts a time required for the rotation of each plate. Arithmetic operations of time measurement and the result of measurement are executed by a microcomputer. An angular velocity of the base element 2 supporting rotary bodies is measured from a time difference between the rotations of the plates to be obtained from the operations.
